Personal Brand Photography

What is it and why is it important to you?

First, what is a brand?

  • What people say about you when you aren't in the room.

  • What prospects think of when he or she hears your brand name.

  • Your brand is what exists in someone's mind.

  • It is the look and feel of your business. This includes your logo, website, tagline, business color scheme and so much more.

Why is having a brand important?

  • It is how you communicate who you are.  Example: what is your relevancy, appeal, credibility.

  • It is what your company stands for. What are your core values and your major characteristics?

  • Helps establish a connection and build trust.

Why is Photography important

"Seeing comes before words. The child looks and

recognizes before it can speak"

Berger, Ways of Seeing, 1972

Why is photography important?

  • Remember the saying a picture is worth a thousand words? This saying couldn't be more true today. If someone is scrolling through your social media, website or even a professional association your image will either connect with them or turn them off.

  • With social media becoming so prominent in our every day lives imagery that tells a story is greatly needed. People want to feel connected to the person they are going to work with and if you have a bad photo or even one that is several years old that just isn't going to happen.

  • Photography will help show potential clients what you do and what it is like to work with you.  The images allow you to show the connections you have with your clients which makes you relateable and trust worthy.

"90% of information transmitted to the brain is visual and visuals are processed 60,000 times faster in the brain than text"

Story Brand

What can images do for your business?

  • Images help websites get more views. Websites with strong images get 94% more views than those without. (Business Centre)

  • It is time to show and tell.  Carefully chosen images reflecting the use of your product or service adds value and trust helping potential clients envision themselves using it.

  • Web pages with at least one image has been associated with more shares on Facebook.  You can make it easier for clients to share your images/website by adding a buttons for social media sharing.

  • We are a social media driven society. Do you want people to stop their scroll and read your copy? Add the perfect image to tell the story and make the quick connection. Eye catching images will get their attention over text.

How can you Benefit?

  • Without professional images the words we use in our copy will not make the connection we are hoping for. Most people skim over the text looking for keywords and don't take the time to read every word. Potential clients will remember the images on your site or social media longer and will make a larger impact.

  • With the right type and style of images you can share your story, what you do and how you can help a potential client much quicker.

  • Using selfies? It is time to stop. A poorly taken selfie can give the impression that you lack quality in your work. When this occurs trust is lost and they move on to the next company.

What is Personal Brand Photography?

"Products are made in a factory but brands are created in the mind"

Walter Landor

What is personal brand photography?

  • This is the use of images to tell your story. At least telling the portions of your story that are relevant to your business/brand and to potential clients.

  • Branded images demonstrate your core values and let potential clients know what you stand for.

  • Allows you to align your brand with your clients needs.

  • Gives you the control of what is put into the world and what you are known for.

  • Creating images that reflect your brand helps maintain consistency throughout all of your business from website to social media.

  • It is a mix of headshots, non-traditional headshots, casual images, work images, candid images and even product images.

  • This can include stock images that are custom crafted to reflect your brand and have readily available when the need arises.

"Branding is the process of connecting good strategy with good creativity"

Marty Neumeier

What is a story?

  • Stories are a means to convey who you are and what you do.

  • A story not only tells who you are, but it makes you relateable and easier to trust.

  • The amount of information you share with the public is completely up to you. It is also about how you want to represent your brand.

  • The stories you share should connect with your brand and how you want the public, namely potential clients, to see you.

  • Are wondering if you should share about your family? The answer is maybe. If your family is a big part of your brand then yes, but if it isn't part of you brand it wouldn't make sense to share.

  • So what type of stories are there? The type of stories are limitless. Some examples would include: being a wife/husband, being a mother/father, being a pet owner, working one on one with a client showing how you serve them, working at the computer, if you are an artist show yourself working on your latest creation, and the list goes on.

  • The story is worth more than 1000 words when shown in an image.

"Your brand is the single most important investment you can make in you business."

Steve Forbes,

editor in chief of Forbes Magazine

Who needs a personal brand session and when should  you invest?

  • If you have an online presence whether it be website, social media outlets, business profiles, or blog you need to share your story and support your brand visually.

  • If you are part of speaking engagements you need images beyond the basic headshot to represent your brand and what you stand for.

  •  Creating advertisements for your business -  you need images to tell what you do and how you do it in order to make genuine connections with potential clients.

  • You know it is time to invest when you aren't attracting the right type of client

  • If you are taking the attitude of "what's not broke, don't fix it" you are more than likely well overdue. Odds are you are using headshots that are more than 5 years old. If that's not the case you may be feeling overwhelmed and just not know where to start and how to portray your brand.

  • Remember brands are fluid and evolve as you and your business evolve. Thus to remain relevant your imagery must evolve.

  • If you are considering a re-brand it is the perfect time to start with fresh images that represent your new brand.
